Had a conversation with a dude last night about how many miles he has ridden in his lifetime. He claims that he has ridden over 500,000 miles in his lifetime but is only 30 years old, (he started by saying he thought it was over 3 million miles, which I laughed at right away). He said that he began riding at 3 years old, so doing the math, he would have to have ridden over 50 miles per day each and everyday of his life since 3 years old. This brought up thoughts of "How many miles does a bicyclist ride in his or her lifetime?" Got go to the forums for this answer? Any got an idea??
Anyone know how the record for bicycle miles ridden in a lifetime?

it'd be hard to record such data, but I rode 12k miles in 08, I could see some people riding 20k a year maybe upwards of 30k for an elite level athlete? 15 years of that sort of consistency would be tough but people have done it.
I know some pros train up to 20 hrs a week for probably 40 weeks out of a year. thats 800 hrs at say 20mph avg would give you 16k. so maybe 20 and 30k are way off.
