bizarre mechanical failure

i was riding downhill on sepulveda, just before the 90 freeway. suddenly my chain derailed and i coasted to a stop on the opposite side of the street. I looked down and noticed some sort of fibers had wrapped themselves around my freewheel, and had covered all of the teeth, so that my chain got pushed off.

after a few minutes of picking, i got all the offending material off. what was it? someone's hair extensions! Im not exactly sure how the entire thing actually found its way into my freewheel, but it was definitely a scary and fascinating experience.

so let this be a warning to all of you: wear a helmet, ride safe and watch out for weaves.
