Head's up if you're headed to the Rock Opera at the Million Dollar Theater downtown on Friday 4/23. [Free w/ RSVP to RSVP@postfactproductions.com] You might want to leave a little extra time for the "bag check situation."
Security Guard re: my backpack: "You can't bring a bag in here."
Me: "I rode my bike and I had to bring my tools and stuff."
Security Guard: "You can't bring a bag in here".
Me: "I rode my bike. I don't have anywhere else to put it. Can't you just search it or something? Don't you have a bag check?"
Security Guard: "If we had a bag check it would cost $4 or something."
Finally they decided the director could take the backpack backstage and I could get it after the show. Turns out they just threw it in the back seats of the theater during the show, so I'm not sure how that was so secure.... I don't think it was about unauthorized photo taking either, since a number of people were openly taking cell phone pictures throughout.
Ive been to tons of shows at the old theaters downtown and usually bring an even bigger pannier and never had a problem with it before. Worth checking out the show, but although tomorrow can hardly be as cold as today, if you have no resistance to cold like I do, be sure to grab some of your warm stuff out of your bag before the director "bag checks it". A lot of those old theaters are drafty & the Million Dollar especially.
Happy Earth Day to me....
