I've done this ride in the past. Great organization, Great cause, Great people.
Donation complete!
Enoy the ride it starts out in a really nice big park in long beach and rolls down to huntingon beach/Newport and back. I seem to remember going up through some neighborhoods around newport beach and back on some bike trail by a newport bay/harbor, etc. I think there was even a brief stop as we got a free ferry ride from balboa island across the harbor back to PCH. At the time it was longest ride I had ever done.

thank you!
ive done a bunch of the walk to cures, and raised close to $5000 in 2005. i did the thousand oaks tour de cure in 2007. the headwinds were brutal. the long beach one goes from the queen mary to palos verdes and back.
december 11th, 2010 will be the 14th anniversary of my diagnosis.

i donated.... but Im going to do the ride too. Thanks for posting...
My step-pops (who helped raise me) almost died less than a year ago via nearly entering a diabetic coma (he was claimed to have been 30 min or so away from entering the coma), my grandmother died from the complications associated from her diabetes... neither of them took/take care of themselves so its a frustrating disease to watch people go through... though I dont have genetic relation to my step-dad, i do with my grandma....
luckily i do my blood work, exercise, eat right, and such... but this really hit close to home over the summer...
seriously, im glad you posted this... I'm going to sign up tonight.
thank you

a normal non diabetics blood glucose is between 80 to 120. when i was diagnosed, i was in the upper 1500s. ketoacidosis almost put me in a coma as well.

email julian (jdillon@diabetes.org) and tell him you want to be part of team fixed for the cure and he will set you up.
team fixed for the cure is in the lead for the most money raised for a family and friends/non corporate team. i hope we stay in the lead.

I sent an email to Julian requesting the change... we'll see what happens.
So is your team all riding fixed--is that the "fear"? I'm down, but I have to convert one of my bikes again... i sold my Salsa Casseroll so... I can convert my SS mtb or my cross-check... probably the mtb bike... we'll see.
Heres my page (i should have pledged more because now my employer wants to sponsor me)

holy crap, johnny depp!
yeah, the fixed thing is the fear. some people are intimidated about spinning for 60 miles and doing some of those climbs. but you dont need a fixed gear to be on the team, its just that a bunch of people from lafixed made the team. if you want to carpool to the queen mary on the 2nd, i can fit you in my car.

I'm doing the 20 or 32 mile ride with my 8 year old daughter on a trail-a-bike.
We're with 'Team Skunk Works' which will be a large group of people wearing Lockheed jerseys. Come say Hi (the trail-a-bike will be easy to spot!)
See you there

Diabetes runs deep on both sides of my family, I encourage everyone to participate in this and ride.
Anybody else would like to donate, here is my link as well.

Anyone leaving from Los Angeles and taking the blue line?
Im doing the 60 mile, if ya want to meet up and listen to me ramble on the way to Long Beach. Or I can just read up on some talking points about the Mayweather fighter tonight and try to hold a conversation.
Peace...
I'll check back later....

lafixed with be there representing in force, we got bumped the #4 team unforunately but look for the kids riding their fixie whips, maybe wearing cutoff jeanshorts just to add insult to injury against the common dentists en route http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/LosAngelesArea?pg=team&fr_id=6896&team_id=450658

i, for one, had a blast. it was nice meeting and briefly riding with you, md2. user1 was there and we rode the last few miles together and the two of us helped another guy fix a flat after he pinched three of his tubes. all in all this was a success.

NOW it all makes sense. User "Kakihara" and I did a little loop and climb this morning from San Pedro out to Malaga Cove and up Altamira to Hawthorne and back, and I could not understand why I saw so many people on fixed and singlespeed bikes and/or in non-roadie clothing coming the opposite direction on PV Drive West and South. We probably saw all of you guise and didn't even know it.
I should, like, read the forums more often so I know what the fuck is going on.
Congrats, all. Good job. Congrats especially to the girl I saw coming up PV Drive West, nearing the top of that looooooong climb, bopping it out on a track bike with a look of agony on her face, looking at me like she wanted to kill me for going down the hill she was fighting so hard to get up. You're a warrior, whoever you are.

I actually saw both you... I sent Kakihara a text asking if she was out there, because I saw two riders doing downhill on Palos Verdes Dr (i think), and one was on a track bike with a pink Bern helmet.... I only know one rider who fits that description.
Fun ride... nice meeting Tyler, Liz and some guys from LA Fixed (some strong riders)...
ChaosRR, what brand was youre trail bike?
