I kind of miss these things, I had one from '97 up until '02.
Real simple and quite cheap for service compared to cellphones now.
My usual armament for venturing consisted of;

-$20 to $30 bucks in cash
-Swiss Army Knife
-$20 phone card
-My beeper.

Never. Sometimes my mom or boyfriend would give me theirs so they could reach me, but it was useless even then because I didn't know how they worked.

Carphones were the shit.

At some point I was like what the purpose when I have to run and find a skanky payphone and pay 50¢ to see what somebody was calling me for.

I had a carphone in my very first car when I was 16. It was left over from the dude I bought it from and it didn't even work, but we'd still pretend it did to impress the fly honeys in the school parking lot.

I have a pager NOW that I use for my messenger work.
It's alphanumeric, so they page me all the details on jobs = no writing shit down or trying to remember. My shit is blowin' up on a daily basis yo!

That's what I liked about those Qualcomm Infotrac's systems we had on board the Swift trucks.

All the info and directions we needed to get the job done.
