I've been telling everyone within an earshot to come on rides, and have had considerable success so far. But the problem is that some of my friends seem to have a fool proof excuse not to come to rides, which is not having a bike.

Well I want to change that with your help. All you have to do is suggest a bike shop that has good rates on rentals anywhere in the West Hollywood/Westwood/Santa Monica area preferably, though if you know someplace else, I'm all ears.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. And if you happent o have a bike store, I'd be happy to send referrals your way. Thanks.

There are at least 3 places on the beach path, not sure if they rent out overnight though. The first place to rent decent bikes (not cruisers) and throw in lights, lock and helmet on the westside will make bank. I'm thinking $15-25 a day is really fair, most big cities charge 40 or even 50 a day and they don't give you any of the extras.

It would be cool if the BikeRoWave would step it up and provide such a service, they could make billions.

BikeRoWave should buy those and then rent them out and make back their money after just two rentals.

This is a geeat idea i get the same bullshit story thats why i have more than one bike that way theirs no space for that line !

My brother rented a tandem for a couple days from a place in Griffith Park so he could take his non-biking girlfriend on the 4th of July ride. I know they have regular bikes too. Don't know how much $ but I know you can keep them overnight.

I also did some research and here's what I found for anyone who searches the forums for bike rental info in the future:

Hollywood Pro Bicycles rents bikes @ $65/$75 per day:

Honestly, all these deals seem kinda crappy. I don't know why it costs more to rent a bike for a day than it does to rent a car. You can literally rent a car for around $35/day.

It seems like the best option is really to pick up some of these old beater bikes off Craigs List, and to tell your friends to quit making bullshit excuses. Since these bikes are so cheap, having them stolen shouldn't be a huge concern, though another common excuse is that they don't have anywhere to lock up their bikes. But even if you have to leave it locked up on the street, you can lock everything up fairly securely with one of these locks:

So the verdict seems to be: buy a bike, even if you only use it once or twice a month. It's still cheaper than renting for some unknown reason...
