The Cubcamp ride finished and got back to the BRW at a little past 1 this morning. As we rolled in, we notice a group of guys, about a dozen or so, who were all milling around the alley in front of the BRW. A few of us Cubbies decided to hang out in the BRW and have some beers before going home. Through the course of the next couple hours, we came to learn that these guys were there utilizing the recording studio next door for a series of hip hop albums. All these guys were really fucked up (alcohol, coke, pot). Every once in a while, one would come into the BRW and talk to us for a bit (one of which kept free-styling).
There was one guy in particular who we got a bad vibe from, so a few of us kept our eyes, and ears, on him. In a weird turn of events, it turns out that this guy and one of our Cubbies have a history (this guy pulled a knife on her brother), and the two started getting into it. Harry stepped in between them and made the rapper-guy leave.
While going outside, this guy apparently told his friends he was getting punked or something, so out of nowhere, there are all these guys are in our faces and tempers are shooting up.
I was inside the BRW at this point, trying to take care of female Cubbie when things really started to get crazy. The same guy that we kicked out of the BRW picked up a brandy bottle, swung it and clocked Harry in the back of the head. Marcus gets punched in the face (keep in mind he is still wearing his pizza suit).
And this is when people really start going crazy.
I see Richie start wailing on some guy, Marcus is on top of a picnic table in his pizza costume, screaming, "AAAAAAOOOOOOOOOO!", I yank some dude off of Harry who is trying to choke him out, and in the process, the cops are called.

Let me say at this point, that I have never seen a "hard core" group of guys scatter as fast as I did then. They were like cockroaches after turning on a light. And most of them were either pussies - or smart - because it was only about 2 or 3 of them that were actually fighting. So much for their "tough guy" image.

So, Richie chases them for a little while in his car before losing them. I'm holding a bunch of paper towels to the back of Harry's bleeding head (he is really dizzy at this point). The rest of us are trying to figure out what the hell just happened. Everything happened in a matter of about a minute it seemed like.
The cops come and take reports, take the bottle that Harry was hit with and take photos everywhere. The guy that hit Harry left his car in the parking lot (not to mention they're all supposed to be recording in the studio next door). The fire department comes and tends to Harry's head and patches him up good enough for us to drive him to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica. He ends up getting 4 stitches (deep tissue) and 8, I think, staples.
We drove back to the BRW to get our stuff and bikes and we all split. I got home just before 7 this morning.
Holy crap. What a night. Sorry to hear of Harry's injuries, but I'm glad you guys scared them off and nothing more serious happened. People need to learn not to mess with cyclists, we are crazy f*ckers with boundless energy. Must have been surreal seeing a fight break out with a giant pizza involved.
Man, I wish I had thrown a few punches. That guy said "shut up big ears fucker." Motherfucker, I have HUGE ears, the better to hear you plead "no contest" with.

I'll think twice about any new rides I do if that's the initiation process LOL!!! I've got about 10 staples inn 'my cast iron bed' and a lump to boot! I just hope the SMPD who investigate are as good as the two officers last night who assisted.

If you can get their info from the police report you should write them a letter thanking them for the fun melee. Then say something about how you are bummed they called the cops.
Cranky Bikerowave property manager Shiva Baum appears to be using this incident as a way of making a case to kick out Bikerowave, despite the fact that it was we who were attacked. Fucked up. We may need a tenancy lawyer soon.
Sounds like this is an incident that will be causing a wave of oppressive, and anti-fun rules to be passed within the BRW itself.

It looks like we're going to get by. It was dicey though, and we're offering the landlord my head on a stick - my name comes off the lease - as a peace offering. It's all so ridiculous though, since we were defending ourselves and within the letter of the lease.
And all this was over some wannabe, rap-group that hasn't been hittin' big since that local, single played on 105.9.
I think to celebrate this over-coming, I'll write a "Country & Western" song regaling this event.
Even though I wasn't there, I'll elaborate on the happenings as best as possible.
