Air Guns Still Hurt

Just letting everyone out there know that someone in the Culver West Park neighborhood has an air gun and likes to use it. Got shot in the back on April 23rd, at the meet for a westside ride. Didn't take it seriously enough at the time - thought it was a paintball or something less-than-seriously dangerous. As you can see from the xray, I was wrong. It wasn't airsoft or a bb, these lead pellets are best used for small game. Went to the hospital to have it removed after about a week of walking around with it in me. At the time, I didn't make a big deal to the group, couldn't see anyone to confront or anyone running away. Did some yelling and walked around looking for someone but no dice. Coulda been a bored kid shooting from his bedroom window. Also coulda been my girlfriends eye that got taken out, as she was standing right next to me - or anyone else in the group - I was lucky to have it hit my shoulder blade and ricochet deep into some muscle, missing any important organs. The day at the hospital was not fun - an hour in the ER with the doc's pinky finger all the way up in a giant incision about 2 in from the entrance wound. CCPD report was filed - not too much that can be done but if anything like this happens, make a big deal. At least err on the safe side and let everyone know so the ride can leave before anyone else gets unlucky. I was in denial that anything serious had happened until I saw the xray.

You were one of at least 2 people hit that night, out of multiple air rifle shots fired (I heard a few wizzing by, but didn't realize what it was until too late).
Some of us tried to let people know what was going on, and eventually we got rolling, but we probably need to treat this more seriously next time (or skip starting rides at Wade Park for a while).
Glad to hear you got it taken care of.

Yeah, i hate to bow to violent neighborhood pressure, but i don't think it's worth the risk to mess around in wade park...unless it's a specific mission to find the culprit....which I still have an urge to do. CCPD isn't really able to act unless they get other confirmed reports. Took 11 incidents for cops in SGV to nab someone for shooting at cars and bikers. Anyway, plenty of good meet spots on the westside. Hopefully the realization that one dipsh*t can really hurt someone with a silent and cowardly attack is enough to make sure that everyone takes this seriously next time, if there is a next time. If you're ride leader and you think something's up, stop the music, make an announcement and either move somewhere safe or go find the f*ckers. If it happens to you, let everyone know immediately - don't just run off and try to find the people yourself like I did (thx to those who tried to help, not much we could do).

someone made the assessment to the group at the scene that it was an air-soft gun. i don't know how he knew but he was wrong.

Jezzus efff. Pellet gun?! That's majorly messed up. A BB-gun is one thing but a pellet gun is no joke --- as you found out. Sorry dude. Screwed up city with screwed up nutjobs all over. Too bad these cowards get away with it.

The sad part is, it's in a decent neighborhood. I live like 2 blocks from there. My suspicion is this was a kid. Technically when it happened, the park was still open. We have had large groups in that park before, playing capture the flag and other things, at much, much later times.
