Crazy.....What add insult to injury is the vitriol comments that people are saying about cyclist. I hate when any issue has to do with a cyclist the basic argument is they take up lanes and break the law. % wise cars are far more a problem then cyclist will every be but people seem to forget that.
Cyclist seem to be an easy target......It is sad that after someone trying to kill the cyclists people would blame them for being scofflaws.

Foldie,
I have determined through extensive research that those comments belong to the category of internet comments know in common parlance as "trolling".
When the term "
trolling" is used many people think of a ugly creature hiding under a bridge, but in actually the practice may have more to with the angling practice of drawing a baited line behind a moving boat with the hopes of catching a fish.
The purpose of this behavior usually involves making outrageous statements, (often with very little conviction), in order to upset other forum users and provoke a response, thus turing attention to the so called "troll", often distracting form the primary subject being discussed.
---------------------------------------------------------
Who knows what was going through the mind of the maniac who hit all those people.
Its very fortunate that their injuries we not worse.
And yes, we have people just as insane here in L.A. (every big city does) its just a matter of how and when somebody cracks and where they direct their aggression.
Unfortunately another one of the scary sides of being a "vulnerable road user"
be safe out there friends.

thats pretty crazy....
one, that you did extensive research on trolling.... but more importantly (and un-troll like) is the idea that some nut job has it in for cyclist.
People are so weird. But like other movements, sometimes people need to hear / see the crazy shit a group of people encounter in order to feel disgusted about it.

I would have to disagree a little about being a troll. There are a % of trolls, but trolls are there for attention and general muckery. People under the guise of being anonymous on the internet can voice how they really feel without the backlash of public perception or political correctness. So I don't think a majority of negative opinions is bast on Trolling but voicing their true beliefs. So the real issue goes to why do people have a disdain for cyclists?

and that's just something that hits home to cyclist. try dwelling on so much more, and you may start wondering more and more if there really should be any poetry after Auschwitz, or at least what that really meant / means.
Maybe part of the inability to compute is also rooted in the lack of experience. There are many that can compute because they have been victims and such. You can't dwell on these things too much and still sit at well set table, without looking a little disingenuous. Maybe your post was more about my comment about your troll research and not about the inability to compute.
Either way, again... though in a crude way, it usually takes crap like this to happen for public attention to sway on our side.
And we're on the same side.

This has no connection with Critical Mass, right?

Gridlock tends to cause roadrage and seeing cyclists happily moving along tends to incite that internal jealousy within.
I'll go ahead and admit right now that is part of the reason I choose not to drive every single day.
Better to hit traffic on the one time you drive than on every single intersection if you drove one time too many.
Anywho, these roadrage incidents appear to be getting too far out-of-hand and there also seems to be an equal amount of drivers out there that either have no privileges, lost them some time ago, or just aren't fit to be behind the wheel.
Being a commercial CDL-A holder, I have to go in for a USDOT approved medical exam every two years in order to keep the "commercial" title valid, in addition to the typical CA, 5-yr renewal(other states allow a 10-30yr period before having to renew!!!).
In this medical exam, all problems, physical or mental, are gone over thoroughly and can usually mean the difference between having a potential career, or standing in a line some place.
Perhaps now it's time for regular "C" license holders to be required to do the same.

I don't think this has any connection w/CM. I got the news on this last night right after it happened from a friend of mine who lives (and rides) close to those spots, and from what I got from her, it didn't seem to stem from this, just very likely the standard dislike/road rage against cyclists gone waaaaay too far.

Lots of crime up in the Bay Area making headlines recently.
First that body in the suitcase from a few weeks ago, now this crazy shit.
What happened to the "peace and love" mantra that the city is so known for?
