So i decide to make the transition from fixed to gears.
is it possible to put a cassette on a velocity wheel, or what are good wheels for gears?
and where can i get a good cassette for cheap?

listen to graham or take the general ass questions to a LBS where they can explain things better.

love your fixie for what it is. i got a classic racing bike for $125. keep your eye out and look for an old frame with good components. 2 bikes > 1 bike.

another question to ask is whether your frame is track specific, or if you're riding a road frame and what width it is...
a track specific frame has a rear width that is about 10 mm narrower than the common road frame, so keep that in mind...it all depends what kind of frame you have

well yeah I did come to the conclusion that ima have two bikes,
but I have trying to get into time trialing. so im trying to find out what the best stuff for that is. I already have the frame, aerobars TT, but I cant afford no Zipps so basically what i need to know is what is a good pair of wheels?

fuck the wheels, get a skinsuit, aero helmet, bars, and a bike that fits to the time. shave your legs arms wear a visor, dont breathe, don't forget shoe covers. use those cheapo disc covers.
and bring the power.

but seriously time trialing isn't something you just get into. thats call being a triathlete.
the thought of paying money to be told how slow i am with 0 chance of actually winning is enough to keep me from spending $1k to gain 10 seconds/hr

zipps are a premium. buy a zipp when you consistently finish second and need that extra .5 second boost for 1st. go get some ebay carbon tubulars. get some tufo tt tires

It's starting. The fixie craze is getting more riders out on the street CUZ ITS COOL. and then all of a sudden some of them LIGHTBULB that gears and brakes are a wonderous amazing revolution in bikes.
(Apologies to BoneCrush if you already have a long esteemed history with gears)

Well I had originally gotten into cycling because i want to be a triathelete.
but I was introduced to fixed gear.
Now that my riding has gotten more serious and amount of miles traveled further I think fixie isnt going to cut it.
Yeah ima still ride a fixed but just for commuting.

i dont give a crap what anyone says... do that triathlon on the fixed bike... whether you win or lose... one thing you'll walk away with: you finished riding a fixed gear bike.
I'd rather lose with people knowing I lost in more pain than necessary (even if you didnt -- its all perception). Winners at this level are all forgotten... so fuck it... do it on a tall-bike.
But if winning matters, well.. i know nothing about winning... so i just want to exit life in style... I'm not really do well either way though...
Anyhow, just go for the extra applauds as your ride by SS/Fixed, instead of another geared guy who wasn't fast enough.
Trust me; I'm right.
