Day & Night the lonely Trip to SB

My plans for camping memorial day weekend fell through. Planning on riding out to Santa Barbara early Sunday morning and camping. I'll either ride back or take the train back on Monday. Any advice? I've never done this ride. Should I take my 9-speed or can I ride fixed? Is there a good place to set up camp that doesn't require me shelling out moola?
If anyone is interested in going. Holla.

If you've pulled off any daily long distance on a fixed-gear, then I believe it would be suitable provided your load was light.
If not, then the 9-speed would make things easier and enjoyable when it comes to hauling any camping gear you'll be bringing.
I've never ridden that route, but judging by other testimonials around here, I believe it could be done rather safely solo.

taking the train up and riding back is easier. most of the camping along the way is for RV's. as far as for fixed; its mostly flat with not much exception, but its obviously not a short distance to keep your legs moving the whole time.

RV's=Retirement Vans.
So they won't let you camp out in those areas if you're not driving one of those?

I thought about taking the train up and riding back after doing some research online. I'll probably take the 9-speed.
Where do the through bicyclists usually camp out? I'll probably just have to get there and spot out an "illegal" place to set up camp, eh?
Thanks for the advice. Keep it coming if there is more.
