Echo on sunset in echo park
BAND VANS NEED TO STAY OUT OF BIKE LANES!!!
Super dangerous corner, downhill, and band vans are parking there to unload into echo. Cyclists are coming around the corner at 35mph to find a parked van in bike lane with doors wide open. These idiots need to park and carry the band stuff in like real men... what kind of musician can't carry equipment 50 feet??
Yeah you're hardcore!!
(GREEN van with Penn. plates tonight at the echo 4/20 7:20 pm, refused to move out of bike lane despite several requests from cyclists. Driver was little freckled white kid with mommy's credit card...)
IF YOU SEE VANS IN BIKE LANE AT ECHO, please yell at them, then call LA parking enforcement to report 213-485-4184.
Ps. Please don't break their mirrors off, key, smash windows, spray water, etc.

how about instead of yelling politely ask driver of offending vehicle to move as soon as possible. If he or she declines then politely notify them that you have already contacted the parking enforcement and there should be an officer on their way shortly ... and by the way ... nothing personal ... have a ricking gig!

Why did the Echo allow the van to load their equipment on Sunset? Don't they have a back door entrance at the alley to load shit to the stage?

if this repeatedly occurs in front on the Echo (or in any bike lane in front of an establishment) you can call the LAPD non emergency number and file a report. LAPD has recently stated in the LAPD/Cyclist Task Force meetings that "if someone is habitually blocking the bike lane they will ticket". If you call and nothing changes send me the details and I'll make sure it gets in right hands. (http://bit.ly/8Z1aB7)

LAPD has just made an Operations Notice (an internal announcement to all officers) to cite for impeding/blocking bike lanes. Traffic Officers will cite for any cars, vans, trucks, trailers or other vehicles that are blocking 100% of the bike lane. LAPD will also be investigating any businesses that are chronically blocking the bike lanes. Temporary valets will also be cited if they are blocking the lane.
This means LAPD has listened to our persistent effort to protect cyclist rights to an unobstructed path of travel. Kudos to the LAPD Cyclist Task Force, Cmdr. Doan and Sgt. Krumer.
You can contact the 24hr LAPD Traffic phone numbers to report:
central: 213-485-4184
valley: 818-752-5100
toll free: 877-275-5273
ps: we are still working on modifying the "blocking 100%" part of this Operations Notice since there are situations where blocking less than 100% is still a safety/rights issue.
