Hello All,
The suspect in the Alex Romero hit and run was arrested as well as her father for assisting in covering up the crime.

This has got to be a relief to the family..I know it doesn't bring Alex back, but it's sure nice for Justice to serve that arse!! Keep us posted with more details!!!!

People need to realize that it is better to man up and deal with the consequences of an accident. The problem is that there is not a worse punishment for running away from ther accident in the yes of law. Am I mistaken?
If it is more severe to hit and run in the eyes of the law, then less people will try to do it. Right?

in most cases punishment for hit and run crime is much less than other crimes that may be associated with the hit and run.
ie. DUI, Drug or weapons possession, driving with out a license, being here without papers, etc.
If a person is "seriously injured" (ie broken bones) or killed and the driver leaves the scene there is an additional penalty for leaving the scene.
Many of us have theorized that the ever increasing punishment for DUI for has become a major factor/ consideration for criminals leaving cyclists for dead on the road.
Big ups to LAPD for continuing to peruse justice for Alex and his family.

Yeah, but what's the game plan for us to try to get the law changed that justifies lessening the DUI punishment and moving it towards h&r to be a harsher than one... ? Does that make sense?

This is one that that many of us support:
Life before License
I strongly believe that a person should lose their license if they knowingly leave a scene where they downed a cyclist, or ped. but getting that law passed through state government is another thing.

According to the LA County Sheriff's inmate locator page, Steven Rush, the father, was released tonight around 7:30pm. The bail was set at 20,000, so the family only needed about 2,000 to bail him out through a bondsman.
No release info for the daughter, so she's probably still in there. Her bail is set at 100,000, so family will have to come up with about 10,000 to bail her out through a bondsman.

Sgt. Krumer, why were the booking photos for this case shown to the media and public, but other convicted hit and run criminals have not??

Charges were filed against Dominique Rush and Steven Rush in that case. Next hearing date is Oct. 7 in Dept. 122 at the Van Nuys Courthouse. Case itself is still in early stages though.

I spoke to the deputy district attorney handling this case.
The next hearing is tomorrow, November 9, 2011, but it is only scheduled for a preliminary setting. So not much is expected to happen other than picking a date for the preliminary hearing.
If anyone is still interested in going, it's at the Van Nuys Courthouse, Division 122 at 8:30am.

Thanx for keeping us updated on this. So, are the defendants just delaying this trial? When will the courts be forced to try these two?

I don't know if they are deliberately delaying the case. I do know that defendant's have every right to be fully defended and prepared for every stage of a case and their attorneys usually come up with valid reasons for postponing hearings.
But when it's clear that there are no more valid excuses or the case is over a year old, a judge will put pressure on the attorney's to pick a date and get the trial over with.
From what I've seen, criminal felony cases in LA county can easily take more than a year before they actually get to a trial. Sometimes, even a plea bargain can take up to a year.
