Legalize Marijuana!
Thread started by

Forgive me if there was another thread on this subject- but I didn't see it.
If there's any of you doing anything to help this movement to legalize marijuana in California then please share it here. I'd love to help and I'm sure more pot smoking cyclists around here would too.
I did look over taxcannabis2010.org but there's really not a lot on there. I guess I should be more active on it already, but I just bought a house and am sort of busy.
At very least go vote when it comes up!

take the time to contact the politicians who represent you (local) + larger, just google the info, write yourself a nice paragraph (better done before you toke) about the economic + social benefits of marijuana legalization and copy + paste it into all your letters. if only half the people who smoke did this i bet we'd see some action.
if you want to go a bit farther post up all the email addresses you find on midnightridazz.com + some pre-written pro-weed statements for people to choose from.
i'd do it, but i just smoked...

VOTE NO ON LEGALIZATION!!
Why should we vote yes? So the gov. can make a profit on something they tried to fight so hard against? Legalization means taxation. Taxation means, they're making more money on something that you can grow in pretty much any climate, Legally if you wanted, with a doctor's rec.
Check out "The Union: the business behind getting high" It's not the most informative, but fun to watch none the less.
And hey, if they could figure out a way to make that sticky icky legal, and not charge us up the ass for it, hey, I'm buying. (as long as its not over 45$)

if pot was legal it would be dirt cheap even after taxation. it is the #1 cash crop in the united states even if it is being grown illegally meaning it would be even more prominent. plus our government NEEDS the money. we're trillions of dollars in debt remember?
LEGALIZE MARIJUANA.

It's sort of in a gray area as far legality is concerned, but I sure as hell ain't no child protective services agent, nor do I have a degree in sociology(or anything for that matter ;)
Anywho, there's other uses for cannabis plants aside from smoking them out, so we use them to the fullest potential and turn our country back into the economic powerhouse it once was.

i will vote, but I remember when (in the 90's) the people of cali voted MJ legal, but the federal govt said if we enacted the law, they would not pay us our freeway money (our state tax money, which must be paid to the feds, then they can give it back to us, basically it means they have us by our collective nads)
cheers-

We shouldn't legalize it, we should decriminalize it.
Weed's prices wouldn't go up or down if we decriminalized it. Our law enforcement, court, and jail systems would waste less money paying cops, lawyers/judges, and prisons to arrest, prosecute, and imprison marijuana users.
It would save California a lot of money and headache if they decriminalized it and make it the least of everybody's worries.
At the same time, I don't want it to be legalized entirely, where there would be a cannabis cafe every two blocks like a Starbucks. I prefer the idea of state and public ordinances controlling where marijuana can be consumed, as well as some kind of control factor on how much one is allowed to grow.
The truth about marijuana is that it is the #1 cash crop in America. It's a good investment as it is nearly as good as money or better; it can be flipped for twice its value when large amounts are purchased, and has a quadruple return for an investment in growing. This is partially why the government is so reluctant to legalize it. It's practically impossible to control due to the drug's easy to understand production and the drug's vast consumption across the USA.

Expect record turnouts in California elections in November
Calif. voters to decide whether to legalize pot
By CATHY BUSSEWITZ (AP) – 15 hours ago
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California voters will decide whether to legalize recreational marijuana use for adults, after the secretary of state on Wednesday certified the initiative for the November ballot.
It would become the first state to legalize recreational marijuana use if the proposition is approved. Marijuana use is legal for medicinal purposes in California and 14 other states, but the drug is illegal under federal law.
Secretary of State Debra Bowen certified that the petitions seeking to place the question on the ballot had more than 433,971 valid voter signatures, the minimum number needed to qualify.
If approved, the initiative would allow those 21 years and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana, enough to roll several marijuana cigarettes. Residents also could cultivate the plant in limited quantities.
The proposal would ban users from ingesting marijuana in public or smoking it while minors are present. It also would make it illegal to possess the drug on school grounds or drive while under its influence.
Local governments would decide whether to permit and tax marijuana sales.
"The tide has turned," said Dan Newman, a strategist with the campaign backing the measure. "The combination of the broken budget and dysfunctional cannabis laws have created the perfect storm for this initiative to pass in November."
Opponents refer to marijuana as a gateway drug, meaning its use is believed to lead young people to try other, harder drugs. They worry that legalization would persuade more people to try it, worsening the nation's drug culture.
"How can our kids say no when the adults around them are saying yes?" asked Aimee Hendle, a spokeswoman for Californians for Drug Free Youth.
Proponents of the measure say legalizing marijuana could save the state $200 million a year by reducing public safety costs and could generate tax revenue for local governments.
Stephen Gutwillig, California director for the Drug Policy Alliance, said certification of the ballot initiative marks a watershed moment in the decades-long struggle.
"Banning marijuana outright has been a profound disaster, fueling a massive, increasingly brutal underground economy, wasting billions in scarce law enforcement resources and making criminals of countless law-abiding citizens," he said.
The initiative is the second proposal to qualify for the November 2010 ballot. The other is a $11.1 billion water bond measure that was pushed by state lawmakers.
THIS IS IT

if passed prices would have to compete with current prices or people will go back to the black market to buy it, somewhat defeating the purpose of legalizing it in the first place.
