Atwater to Griffith Park Bike Bridge!

Hey y'all come out to Los Feliz next monday to weigh in on the proposed atwater to griffith park bike path bridge.
There are lots of equestrian interests weighing in. We need to get bicycle interests weighed in as well.

It'll be AWESOME, and it needs your support. Currently, there is no good access from Atwater/Glendale to Griffith Park.

Dear Mr. Brownson,
Thank you for pursuing this bridge connecting Glendale/Atwater with Griffith Park—and for including encouraging access for cyclists on the bridge. I bike daily in this area and on the River Path to/from LA and Glendale. I take my bike to work, and often bike with my kids in this area. A bridge that provides access to the LA River and Griffith Park would be hugely successful, promote a move vibrant neighborhood in the area, and increase opportunities for people to get out, be active, and enjoy the park and the river. Currently there are minimal ways for me and my kids when we bike to access these places if we want to avoid major streets (which we like to do—my boys are 10 and 8 and are comfortable bike on streets, but it’s much safer/pleasant to ride together on residential streets compared to the much busier ones in the area). So this bridge would provide a huge benefit to other cycling and walking folks like me and my family.
When I commute back to Glendale from Downtown LA, I must now exist the LA River path by a debris-strewn fast-traffic street (Glendale Bl.) where I have to compete with cars getting off the 5 freeway and high speeds from the Hyperion Bridge. It’s no better exiting at Los Feliz Bl. A bridge providing better and safer access would promote safety and encourage other riders to get on their bikes rather than drive places. The increase in bike commuting on the LA River Path since new stretch S of Fletcher has opened is noticeable. There are many more riders, walkers, and people enjoying the area and pocket parks. It’s quite remarkable—and a huge civic success that continues to grow.
Wouldn't it be great to see parts of the LA River revitalized like Seol's Cheonggyecheon Parkway? That’s would be a much more ambitious project, but it could be a destination and a new LA landmark promoting open space, health, human exchange—and lots of great bird watching. And I love the modern design. It’s a great update and will compliment and reflect the local community and residents nicely. LA needs more of this.
As an also avid mountain biker, I and those I ride with often times encounter horses on paths. Our interactions are always positive and respectful. Either they move aside for us and/or we move aside for them. It’s never as contentious as some portray it to be, which I find strange why some always choose to highlight the differences between the two user groups rather than stress the similarities and co-opportunities.
