Free Ridazz kitten!!!

Shortly after Ryan and I split from the Birfday Ride and headed for home, we stopped on Aviation Blvd to watch a plane fly in. We were standing near a fenced-off lot, and the next thing we knew, this crying kitten on the other side of the fence was running after us. He seemed desperate to get to us and even squeezed through the chain link fence (I totally thought he was gonna get stuck and we'd need to call someone to cut him out of the fence, but he made it)! He was tiny and adorable and clearly not feral (maybe somebody dumped him there?) and we couldn't leave him. So, we found a cab that was willing to take us, our tandem, and a crying kitten home.
Unfortunately, Ryan's allergic to cats, and we can't have them at our apartment anyway, so we can't keep him. We just couldn't leave him. Any Ridazz interested in a free black kitty with a Ridazz origin story? You gotta let us know ASAP, because otherwise I'm taking him to the West LA Animal Shelter (8 am). We'll keep an eye on his number while he's there to see that he gets adopted and not euthanized, but if someone wants to take him before then, that would be cool. Otherwise, we can give you his info so you can adopt him from the shelter.

name the cat after a rider
borfo or tarsis are my votes.
Also; bump for awesome saving-kitten-level karma for team creanberry.
I wish I could take it. Post up a picture to increase the cute factor, maybe.

@super...
if that kitten is at the shelter and you do not want to pay adoption fees... i have 4 little kittens that need homes... i am not too sure about the mother... she was a stray but i saw her pregnant... so I created a shelter in my garage and she had 5 kittens... I can email you pictures... i can be reached at nehidalg@ymail.com.... if you are interested or anyone for that matter... I found home for one of them and searching for a home for the other four... they are 8 weeks old... playful and adorable... I can not keep them because i have 3 of my own and a small dog... so it is a full house... it would help if you guys can also forward this information to friends, family, and co workers... thanks

@SBM3 - Excellent, I'm glad to see that you are going to help a little kitty live.
@dayone - I hope you kittens all get adopted.
I have just a little advice: When you're trying to find a home for kittens...
You've gotta POST PICTURES!

Oh, god . . . I'm feeling horrible about taking him so early (unfortunately, I had to).
But, the upside is, if a Rida or frend of a Rida adopts him, I will cover his adoption fees. I want him out of there.
He's at the West LA animal shelter near the 405 and Pico (just west of the Best Buy).
You can try calling at 888-452-7381 or 213-485-0494. His animal ID number is A1115381. Call NOW and let them know you want this kitten!!!!
I just called and let them know that there are people interested in him, but the more people that call, the better a shot at life this kitty will have. He's an awesome cat (he didn't squirm or act scared through the whole process of me and Ryan walking with him through a busy intersection with planes landing overhead, disassembling the tandem and putting it in the taxi while he was still in my arms, or riding in the taxi. And this morning he was purring.
I'd be so unbelievably happy if somebody took this guy home and I want to do whatever I can to facilitate that.

Never take an animal to the shelter unless you want it killed.
there are other organizations that will help in finding a home.

@Dedicated . . . I don't see you stepping up to help. (And most of those organizations, which you decline to name, insist that stray animals be taken to city shelters rather than their organizations anyway; that's the law. LA Animal Services does NOT euthanize animals after 1 day.)

Any stray taken into a shelter is held for 7 days before they can be adopted. You can probably look at them, but they won't take the stray out of the cage before then. If someone's interested in adopting, drop by and find out the release date and show up early. Some shelters will hold auctions if more than one party show up looking to adopt an animal.

@Dedicated: So, I ask again, what are you doing to help besides criticizing?
@Will: I'm pretty sure the minimum holding time for animals at shelters has been reduced. In any case, it shouldn't be too long before we can bust the little guy outta there.
For anyone else . . . here is the little guy's photo:
http://www.petharbor.com/detail.asp?ID=A1115381&LOCATION=LACT2&searchtype=ID&friends=1&samaritans=1&nosuccess=0&orderby=ID&rows=10&imght=120&imgres=thumb&view=sysadm.v_lact&bgcolor=white&text=blue&link=008000&vlink=FF6600&fontface=arial&fonnever=10&col_hdr_bg=008000&col_hdr_fg=white&col_bg=FFCC99&col_fg=008000&SBG=FFCC99&miles=200&shelterlist='LACT','LACT1','LACT2','LACT3','LACT4','LACT5'&atype=&where=ID_A1115381
He looks a little scraggly there, and not too happy (I'll post some better photos ASAP), but he was an angel the entire time he was being subjected to crazy noises and surroundings as we were getting him home, and this morning he was purring and kneading me with his paws. He's totally sweet, and I have a feeling he'll grow up into a really friendly, confident cat.

Oh that kitty is cute as fuck, too. C'mon people. Sam, what happened? Don't you still want this little guy? Since he's so chill even around noise and commotion, he might even end up being the kind of cat that you could bring with you on rides.

Girl kittens have a "line" when you lift up their tail. Boy kittens have a "dot" when you lift up their tail.

the moment you can determine the femininity of any of those kittens, that one will be out of your hands. i'm hoping only one of the 4 is a girl so i dont have to hate myself for not choosing another female :[

Thanks for the nice thoughts to those who sent them.
I'm still determined to make sure this guy gets a home, one way or another. This is a kitten who RAN to find what were probably the first people who stopped to notice him, then squeezed through a chain link fence to get to us, so no way can he not have a home. Has anyone asked their friends if they can take him? Surely somewhere in the LA metro area, there is someone with room in their home and heart for an adorable black kitty with a cool story. Could anyone reading this please help by putting the word about this guy out via e-mail, Facebook, etc.?

I'll call or stop by today to find out any updates on him. I checked the currently available cats before I dropped him off at that shelter, and they have cats that have been there since February, so I'm hoping that means that they will give the friendly, cute, adoptable cats a good chance. One way or another I can't let this guy get euthanized, but the worst case scenario is that I will adopt him on his last day, and then I will have a kitten that I still can't keep and need to find a home for.

The cool thing about kittens is that you never know what the cat's personality will be like when it gets older.
You might end up with a cat that does silly shit like

Very commendable on taking action to insure a future for this kitten.
I wish I could take him as he is just like a cat that I had before. That
cat was a stray black kitten who grew up to be very social. He was
so laid back that he would even go to the beach with me and hang out.
Unfortunately I have a very territorial male Tom that won't put up with any
other new cats coming around. Black cats are some of the best mousers.

I have dealt with the city shelters extensively because I used to work at a vet and I also used to volunteer there and if they said it got adopted, it definitely did. (Most of) the employees at the shelters don't care enough to lie to people in order to protect their feelings. There's definitely a protocol to the shelter procedures and West LA shelter has the highest adoption rate in the city. That shelter also has so many rescue groups adopting from it. Plus we're not talking about an aggressive or sick pitbull here, which has a small chance of getting a home. I am sure it was either adopted by a person or a rescue group.
