Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, I have 3.
But if a dog does not respond to me yelling "GO HOME!" as loud as I can. I will kick the dog. My safety does not need to be compromised because someone did not take care of their dog.

Save those for a small group of brigands that haven't worked a day in their lives.
Usually just plain stopping, then taking off at a snails pace, then gunning it would be enough to make the dog(s) less excited and they'll go away on their own.
Schnauzer, Chihuahua, German Shepard, St Bernard, works on all.

What I actually did was get off my bike and place it between me and the dogs and yell real loud (No not liek a Gurl :P)
It actually worked, well I mean they did pause and i backed away slowly then the dog owners came out and called the dogs.
I made this thread to see if anyone else had been chased by one and what they did and what works or not..just in case it happens again in the future
ya know? ;)

Even if I knew the dogs, I would not hesitate to give them a swift kick to the head. They are chasing after you for a reason, they want to catch you!

Stand your ground. Dog is not going to attack you unless it's been trained to.
Bark back louder. Use your bike as a shield. A menacing "GO HOME!" usually works.
Some dogs just get off on acting tough. Don't let them.
I've had dogs charge at me plenty of times. If you are louder and lunge back they always back off. Don't turn your back and walk away so soon. Let them know you won't be fucked with. It's not that hard.
Some people should not be allowed to own dogs the way that they treat them.

lol what's up Ninja! I met you at last night's ride. I asked you about your hub in the meeting point!
..i would hit the dog in the nose. I hear thats very painful to them.. one of my biggest fears while riding my bike is getting chased by a dog lol :(

I remember what you told me but I don't trust myself to be that close to a dog when it's agressive and I'm not allowed to carry my Katana anymore either :(
Look up my hub it's called "Nuvinci"
We still on for Ktown Wednesdays?

Soon as they start chasing me I get off my bike and chase them.
Works all the time.

Yep, get off and yell/bark louder than they can. Just remember unless it's a great dane you're going to be pretty much larger than them. Don't be afraid, also putting your bike between you and the dog is a good ideal.

Wait till they get right up on you then spray them in the face with water
from your water bottle. This usually works.
Wait forgot Hipsters don't carry bottles.

I've been chased by countless dogs. Here's what I've done:
Let them get right on my wheel and then slam on the brake.
Let them get close and kick them in the nose.
Turn the bike around and chase the dog, I did this to a repeat offender to the point that when it saw me it jumped and bonked itself on a wall.
Hopped off the bike and chased the dog.
Normally it's the owners that I have problems with. You can at least kill the dog if it tries to bite you, the owners you can't.
Keep in mind that any dog not on a leash is fair game if they attack you.
Ride safe!

If its like a big nasty rott or pit bull or something and you can't escape with your legs, then Ninja you did the right thing and give good advice.
Dismount and keep the bike between you and whats trying to attack you, like a shield.
Same thing if your mountain biking and a mountain lion or rabid coyote or some shiz comes along. Keep your bike between you and it. Good advice.

What I did in a situation like yours on a real long and steep hill was to mash it on the dogg while making barking noises back at him until he got tired.... Too bad the lactic acid in my calves, secreted by the adrenaline rush, bothered me for about 5 days after that.... hahaha... I hate that City Terrace Dogg, the owner should be cited (Herbert & Medford to be exact)...

Man, people must be really scared of dogs in here.
If anything, I look at them as a nuisance as opposed to an actual threat, they can be tamed and properly leashed up.
Now, rabid squirrels dropping out of trees, that's an underestimated threat right there.

yup! I take it with me when I walk my dogs. I have 2 english bulldogs and ill be dammed if im going to let some unleashed dog attack mine. Its always strpped to my leg on my night rides when im alone ever since this one fool let his pitbull out on me. Its nice to know it only takes one hit to put a pit bull on its side for a few minutes with out seriously hurting the dog.
