funny that this popped up today
I was thinking an awsome who's-faster challenge would be to velo race;
winner has to lap the other rider.
If not evenly matched, it would be funny.
If relatively evenly matched, the endurance/stamina race could potentially be epic to watch.
As I said, I don't ride velo and ths may be a out there. If not (TM)...

i plan to take the beginner track class at encino on 1/22 and see how i like it. i checked out the adt website and it seemed more complicated and more expensive, but it does appear to be "world-class".

the velodrome is awesome!
and for the head to head pursuit race, that would be painful. it's so hard to lap someone that is about as fast as you. match sprints are where its at

I'd def spend my hard earned cash @ the encino velodrome instead of adt @ the home depot center... plus encino needs the cash flow alot more than adt does... the guys up there are cool cats and really insightful if ur new... I say hit encino.
After dark sessions are a not happening @ encino until jan 15th. So hit up a Monday with dingo in the afternoon. As long as ur not a stupid erratic rider, who can ride a striaght line, dingo, will give u a chance to train with them..

You should talk to Ken, he runs the show there. They let us run our vintage mini bikes in there...
The best race would be a Devil Take the Hindmost.
that's where the last place rider after each lap is out until there are only two....
loads of action.
Where as I'm pretty full up on events and weekley rides, I'd love to see someone take the reigns on this one and make it happen. Encino needs all the help it can get.

" if your not an erratic stupid rider, and can ride in a straight line, then, dingo, might allow you to train with them". If you consider ur self a strong skilled rider, then give it a shot, with out doin the class! But you should really consider, that, if you suck, and are slow, then you'll proabably end up ruining a serious training session for people who actual take this sport serious. Don't be cheap and take the class, the money goes to the right place anywayz...

two totally different types of races-- people who are fast in match sprints (very high speed, very short duration-- 12 seconds or so) tend to not do well in pursuits (steady high speed, 4-5 minutes duration). Pursuits sometimes are followed by vomiting...
Pursuits are ideally run 2-up with the riders a half lap apart. It ends when they complete the distance or someone gets caught.
Australian pursuits are a bunch of people equally spaced at the start. When you get caught you're out. It ends when there's one rider left.

if you're looking to try the track out, go to Encino Velodrome on Saturday at noon for the Beginner's Class. "Learn track safety, track etiquette and technical skills."
here's the link.
i think it's $40 for the 3-hour session and they have track bikes to rent if you need one.
if you want to go further, try the
Intro To Track Racing class coming up next month. it's a six-week course (Wednesday nights) and you learn by racing. yay!

Generally: fixed gear, no brakes, drop bars or aero bars (drop bars preferred if you're new on the track). Most clipless pedals work fine-- many people use SPDs. clips and straps are fine, too. not being attached to the pedals at all is generally not good.
here's the general guidelines for home depot center, including equipment: http://lavelodrome.org/Training/AccelClassSummary.htm
