I piggy back on that.
I tried to ride it from the beach all the way to DTLA but found myself trying to figure out why was on the side walk or the gutter. There are a few good stretch points, on Wilshire, like riding through Beverly Hills, and so on because of the poor souls stuck in traffic.

4 me it's been just about any street in bell gardens... Ppl there think ur a poor paisa on a bike & don't respect ridazz at all... Got driven off d road, cut off, & almost hit twice within 10miles. Freaking paisas with their native land mentality. We ride by choice not cuz we don't have cars, unlike bike ridazz in their native land. That & all d big rigs manuvering around with out caution & speeding around like they are @ d speedway...

Glendale Blvd. South
- From the 2 FWY off-ramps all the way down to the Echo Park lake.
Many hit and runs of fellow ridazz, and even death has occurred there. Please consider using Silver Lake Blvd instead.

hey resist, is your name Fabian? I think you went to school with my brother...
ANYWAY, I really hate riding on Santa Monica BLVD east of La brea, it's so shitty. Santa Monica Blvd past La Cienega is cool cos the bike lane comes up. but around my hood.. santa monica sucks.

Another point for WIlshire Blvd.
It's a poorly cared for street. So many cracks and pot holes. My teeth chatter riding on it.

Wilshire is so bad I actually take the sidewalk.

What makes Wilshire and many other streets worse is that they repave the main road and ignore the shoulders where we ride (when there is a shoulder at all).
No doubt about it, L.A. (and O.C.) are full of bad to cycle on streets.
For my regular routes, I take side streets whenever possible.
For me, many parts of Wilshire are only safe when I am in a group and we can take the lane.

For sure.
Also, one drawback to riding a recumbent is that the bumps feel 5-10x worse when traveled over directly.
However, I took off the roadie-tires that came equipped and threw my own Michelin street tires of 1.25" diameter on those wheels.
Bumps are still present, but the width of the tires has provided me with some form of dampening, also, no saddle-sores to deal with on the chunky roads of the HD.

being caught riding a recumbent is more of a drawback than that.

+9999999999999999999 for wilshire.
the worst road in the SGV i would have to say is valley all the way from Cal State to dtla. There is so much glass and careless driver!

Olympic & Pico on the westide, going west at rush hour is insane, cars act like there in a qualifying race!

santa monica, from downtown to La Cienega - terrible road, tiny shoulder, and crabby drivers. then when you pass west hollywood, that dark dank stretch through Beverly Hills feels like the most dangerous street I've gone on at night. some of those asphalt mounds are half a foot high.
but i don't think valley is that bad, at least it's nothing compared to wilshire, SM, vermont, or fig.
dinger09.25.10 - 1:06 am

There are a lot of bad ones...
Vermont from Sunset alllllllllll the way down passing Beverly to Olympic. Yes it's downhill but this part of the city has the worst streets and traffic.
Wilshire through K-Town is awful awful awful. F*cked up streets, nothing worth seeing, nowhere worth stopping, just an altogether bad place to be on a bike.
I've biked Fig up in Highland Park and farther down into DTLA. It's got its good and bad places, not as bad as the others I just mentioned.
On the plus side I live in East LA and there are a ton of good streets and neighborhoods to bike through. The drivers can be just as shitty here as anywhere else though.

Hyperion, between Fountain and Sunset. The crack is intimidating but if you're going the right speed and riding fixed and hit the right bumps at the right time, you'll LAUNCH and get massive air.
sick, bro.

+90000000000000001 Its Wilshire, especially when going through beverly hills. damn bmw's and benz's seem like they want to run u over on purpose

Speaking of Alvarado... yeah, Alvarado. Between Sunset and 6th, it can be pretty dicey if you don't keep your speed up over those rolling hills. I've seen at least 3 accidents (car-on-car) where someone didn't slow down enough going over the crest between Temple and Beverly. If they're not expecting a car, they're definitely not expecting a bike.
I don't know if I'd call it the worst or most dangerous street around, but it definitely sucks a lot during some hours of the day.

I try to avoid the following streets:
1. Wilshire (from downtown to beverly hills)
2. La Brea
3. La Cienega (during peak traffic and the freeway section)
4. Melrose strip (too many tourists and assholes not paying attention.)

sunset junction with santa monica traveling on sunset at night. little merging lane that cars plow around, kind of hidden if you are with a large group.
