CicLAvia - 7 miles, No cars

CicLAvia is 10/10/10! It's 7-miles from the Bicycle Kitchen to MacArthur Park to Downtown to Boyle Heights. From 10am to 3pm, Sunday October 10th, 2010 the streets are open for bicyclists and pedestrians and skaters. It's free! http://www.ciclavia.org
Ciclovia started in Bogota, Colombia, where they do 80 miles of car-free streets every Sunday! The tradition has spread to New York, Guadalajara, Miami, Mexico City, San Francisco... and now Los Angeles.
The streets are open for chillin, racing, riding, tricks, rolling, cruising... you name it. Various groups can host your own event in the streets during CicLAvia. For example, MidDay Ridazz is hosting a kids ride at CicLAvia.
What will you do at CicLAvia??

This first CicLAvia will be nothing short of historic. A city-supported route of street closures?! That's unbelievable--and finally shows that LA has the ability to learn, grow, and benefit from other cities around the world that get it when it comes to viewing streets as vital public places with a lot of potential (but that are currently wasted and monopolized by cars)--New York, Bogota, many others.
I wouldn't miss this for anything--because I want more of this--all across the F-ing city!

Joe,
can you post or expand on this thread the possibilities for participants at CicLAvia?
Can we have a dodge ball event?
Bike jousting?
etc
I think if you highlight what the possibilities are, then maybe some of these creative kids can really push some cool events, and draw a crowd

When I first heard this might happen in Los Angeles I couldnt belive it- Im so excited it is going to happen- it's time to get my pedicab out and take my kids for a ride and not fear for our lives as we take the lane.

We could probably help out with this. We recently did a scavenger hunt on
our ride (which actually starts along the CicLAvia route!). I am sure we could come up with something cool for CicLAvia.
