Unfortunately, it's the mayor of Sydney, Austrialia, not Los Angeles...

I can envision these lovely flags all up and down Ventura Blvd., Santa Monica Blvd, over the Sepulveda overpass, etc. along side bike lanes.

Sydney AU has created in ingenious way of promoting cycling to it's urbanites trapped in gridlock.

 Even so, they are way ahead of us when it comes to cycle friendly cities and they have many more cycle commuters.

I have to say, helmets are not that bad, they bounce the rays hot sun off your head (white ones) and keep air circulating around your scalp to prevent sun stroke. I actually ware them more for that than I do for the minimal protection they could provide in case of an accident.
