hope that there will be more valley riders tonight then last month. last month was a disappointment! REPRESENT THE VALLEY!

Tonight was rough. Someone got a flat really early on and we decided to wait for them, but they took forever to fix it (actually, I don't think they ever rejoined). Then there was another flat less than a mile later. People got impatient and ditched the ride, and it just went downhill from there...
Ride needs some kind of cohesion. I volunteer my music rig (such as it is) for next month. I have a new playlist in the works that should have something for everyone. I know Critical Mass isn't supposed to have a set route or a "leader" but tonight we didn't have anyone who was willing to step up and yell "ROLLING" to get the ride going, to decide which way to turn at intersections, etc...
All this despite a really decent turnout for a Valley ride! Let's do it right next month! This ride has potential!

Well, my friend sort of got held up with some other issues before we were able to fire up the boilers and steam through the Cajon Cross-Section.
Needless to say, we knew we were going to be too late so we altered course at the 210/Milliken exit and on to the Westside for the night.

People need to know how to fix flats and have the tubes and tools with them. Each ride is responsible for thier bike and it should not hold up the whole ride.
Learn.
You want to ride, knowing how to fix a flat is the cornerstone of owning a bike, a skill you should have mastered by the time you were 10.
Next time, just go home, we should not have to wait for anyone.

Your bike is a tool, and tools need to be cared for and the user has to know the rudiments of a given tool to get the most out of it.
This has gone on too long for a bike to just be a fashion excessory anymore. If you just want to smoke and drink, stay home. If you're too stupid or lazy to bring tools and a tube what business do you have riding at all? These people always seem to have enough room for weed and a 40 oz, so to hell with them. When are the hipsters going to go back to herion? I can't wait.

just keep the group moving, tell whoever that has a flat where the next stop will be. they'll fix their shit and catch up. if not, they'll be more prepared next time.
it's win win.

It seems weird to have planned stops on a Critical Mass but it would be worth it if that's what we gotta do to keep the ride together and on-track. Music will also help.
Whoever that guy was with the PA system, I didn't get to meet you before the ride got split and fell apart, but that was awesome!
Music bike is great for keeping the pack together. People tend to follow it. When they hear someone yell ROLLING and the music gets loud, they know it's time to go.

This was the first disappointing ride for me.
Firstly, it was way too fast, it was like; get on your bike and ride as hard and as fast as you can! That is not a cm ride for me.
I feel behind right at the beginning and just turned around and went home...no point in riding alone.
No music.
This will be my first and last SFVCM ride.

music + PA system worked great when we had it.
big bike dan used to haul it and sexy would get on the PA and give his 2 cents on this and that.
i agree with the music and PA idea.
who has a set up like this in the valley?
digable Al had a pretty legit music set up.

Al's setup was the best because it was PLENTY loud, had lots of lights, and fit on his bike without a cart.
I have a backpack version. It's not as good as Al's (I'm not much of an electrician) but it is decently loud and is ultravisible with flashing LEDs and stuff. I will bring it next time for sure.

Thanx for telling it like it is Paul. The new people really ruined this ride. And it shouldn't have stops that we have to tell people about either.
JOKER03.4.10 - 9:09 pm
reply
Isn't the whole objective of Critical Mass to get more new people riding?
As for the "rules" of Critical Mass, it's our responsibility to teach the new people how to do it right. Help them out. Don't say they ruined it.
It's our fault (myself included) for not being assertive enough to speak up and, if not lead the ride, at least get it going. We can do better. Don't blame the new people. That's a cop-out.
