We've basically been adhering to red lights in SM, and the cops have mostly been intimidating us, but not ticketing. So we ride for a while in SM - maybe 5 miles or so . . . then beat it to Venice. The riders still aren't that quick to realize when they're in LA that corking is safe again, but everyone is getting more sophisticated. The SMPD is basically manufacturing a very intelligent enemy.
yeayeeeah! SMCM was my first group bicycle ride and I owe it at least 3 halves of my life. i have missed the last few but I am pretty sure I will be there Friday...
The bike car is the only means for transporting humans to and from C.R.A.N.K Mob destinations and we consider safe operation of the bike car as its top priority. The bike car has been on 1 mission over the past year. It will be required well into the 21st century for C.R.A.N.K Mob party assembly and operations support and other C.R.A.N.K Mob missions. Upgrades will be a necessary part of the program until the bike car is replaced. Westsidazz strategy is to identify and prioritize upgrades to meet the program goals of (1) improving system safety, (2) supporting the ride manifest, (3) improving system supportability and reliability, and (4) reducing system operating costs. Westsidazz began a new supportability upgrade program in fiscal year 2008 to combat obsolescence in, and improve the reliability of, the bike car. This program involves updating and modernizing bike car components, such as the drivetrain and navigation control system at the Bikerowave. According to Westsidazz, supportability upgrades are required to help ensure continued safe bike car ride operations. Future plans for the bike car that could influence upgrade decisions are currently being formulated. At the direction of the Office of Nobody ( OOB ), Westsidazz are developing a C.R.A.N.K Mob transportation strategy. In support of that strategy, Westsidazz are also developing a common C.R.A.N.K Mob transportation technology development plan. Taken together, these plans are intended to guide decisions related to future investments in C.R.A.N.K Mob transportation systems. The strategy is to be coordinated with both the Department of Defense and the commercial sector to ensure an integrated approach to C.R.A.N.K Mob transportation in the 21st century. These documents are to accompany Westsidazz fiscal year 2009 budget submission to OOB . Westsidazz budget for the bike car in fiscal year 2008 was $3.15 billion, including $636 million in the safety and performance upgrades line item. Bike car funding is available for obligation over a 2-year period. Funding that cannot be used in the year it is appropriated can be carried over to help cover program costs in the next fiscal year. Carryover includes unobligated funds as well as funds that have been obligated for goods and services but for which costs have not been incurred. The amount of carryover at the end of a fiscal year is determined by the total budgetary resources available less the costs incurred that year. Total budgetary resources consist of carryover from the prior year plus new budget authority. 1 Summary The $190 million funding transfer to the C.R.A.N.K Mob program did not adversely impact current or near-term upgrade projects. Four current projects, which account for about 91 percent of the total funding provided for upgrade activities in fiscal year 2008, could not have used the transferred funds. Even though they experienced technical problems and associated schedule slips, the projects’ financial reserves were sufficient to fund the problems experienced. The transferred funds were also not needed for supportability upgrades because they began more slowly than planned due to a longer-than-anticipated approval process. As a result, only about $40 million of the $70 million in funds allocated in fiscal year 2008 to the new supportability upgrade effort will be used; the remainder will carry over to support fiscal year 2009 activities. The $190 million transferred to the C.R.A.N.K Mob program was available because of the large amount of carryover within the bike car program. Without the transfer, the bike car program would have had about a $600 million budget carryover at the end of fiscal year 2008. However, bike car program managers estimated that they would need only $395 million in carryover at that time.

I met Catherine outside the Santa Monica City Council Meeting last week. She is going to attend this week's CM, at least at the Cannon gathering because:
"I was so delighted to finally make a person connection regarding your Great monthly event. I really applaud your efforts and hope in the future when time allows, to participate.
Our petition is to slow the growth of traffic in Santa Monica by limiting the amount of commercial development the city can authorize per year. We need to gather enough signatures to put it on the ballot in November. The deadline is mid april. I am trying to gather signatures from any SANTA MONICA residents who are registered to vote (or want to complete the voter registration at the same time-I’ll bring the forms)."

(b) No person shall operate on the highway ( )1 a bicycle equipped with handlebars so raised that the operator must elevate his hands above the level of his shoulders in order to grasp the normal steering grip area.
(c) No person shall operate upon ( )2 a highway a bicycle that is of a size that prevents the operator from safely stopping the bicycle, supporting it in an upright position with at least one foot on the ground, and restarting it in a safe manner.
Santa Monica PD will probably not like tall bikes especially ones that don't meet the vehicle code requirements.
okay called the blackburn people and they told me how to do it. problem is i'm an idiot and left it at home and i don't have time to go get it..soo does anyone have something i can borrow? i have to rush straight to the meeting point from work..
so i've never been on a smcm ride..but i hear they suck when it comes to the cops...so are we going to obey laws? how does it go usually...i'm broke and hope to avoid tix..but also not lose the group...
you go slow and you stop at lights for a half an hour. then you high tail it to venice and once you cross the border it turns into a normal group ride.
