Yeah, the forums could use some help. But how about a revival in the real world? Like a week where everybody tries to go on a ride every day? Not some sort of highly organized thing with hype about how it's going to be "sooo epiiiic," but just a week where we each, individually, choose some rides from over there (------>) that we think sound interesting and then try to go on one ride every day for a week. Go on rides you've never been on, ride with people you've never ridden with, get outside your comfort zone. Eh? Eh?
Since we've already got a ton of rides to choose from, there's not really any need to do special organizing, though. The way I'm imagining it, it would be less about organizers saying "I'm going to put on an awesome ride this week!" than about riders saying "I'm going to be an awesome rider this week!" The ride is, after all, about the riders as much as the route and organizing. If everybody decides that they're going on a lot of rides they've never been on, then they might just surprise themselves with how much fun it all is.
The revival could happen at any time. The revival is happening now.
