Hi. Does anyone know if Angeles Crest Hwy is open to get to Mt. Wilson?
reply
I don't think so. Still on the Cal Trans site:
"IS CLOSED FROM 2 MI EAST OF THE EAST JCT OF I 210 TO 14 MI EAST OF
LA CANADA (LOS ANGELES CO) - DUE TO STORM DAMAGE REPAIR - MOTORISTS ARE
ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE"
Maybe this month?
Still have to go up Big Tujunga, Angeles Forest, Upper Big Tujunga.

You can go through the Big Tujunga side. It's a bit of a drive though. However, if there is mountain bikes involved, you can use your legs to climb through El Prieto. Or, if you wake up with really itchy legs, you can climb through Mt. Lowe up to Inspiration point and then to Mt. Wilson. The view from up there will be worth just as much as the hillsprint on the way down.

I'm rolling from noho to mt Wilson on Saturday if you're interested in joining. It's roughly 85 miles the long way through upper big t with about 7000 + feet of altitude gain. I know the way up from glendale is still closed but nut upper big t is horn to redbox and beyond

I've seen a lot of strange things in my day but if you think you got the will power to muscle up Angeles crest, big t, then upper big t, on your fixed, be my guest. FYI. I'm not even close to being in any way shape or form "hardcore". I just like the long painful agony of a good climb.

oh, i have a roadbike. i've always wanted to do angeles crest, but the most climbing ive ever done was maybe PV or PCH. as long as you guys won't leave me, it's all good. i just don't want to end up like that guy in 127 hours.

just be careful descending Angeles Crest. It's a highway, so cars will go way above the speed limit and turn corners faster than they can see you! Duck into the corners as much as possible, but also look out for chunks of rock and debris. It's a very enjoyable ride, though! Good luck!

Yep. On the weekends it becomes a paradise for motorists in crotch rockets and enduro type motorbikes. The good thing is you can hear them coming up or down the canyon up to a mile away.

I'm not scared just too lazy. Last time I went up there was before the road was closed. I just wanted to see if it was open again. I wanna try it on a fixed gurrrr some time this winter.
