2010 Turkey Burn Century

This is a very nice century and some change with only a few turns. I did this ride last year and it was so good I've saved it for this day. We will go south down PCH to Laguna Beach, head east on Laguna Canyon HWY (CA-133), loop back through Irvine, and back north via PCH. It's pretty much impossible to get lost, and after you turn back north every turn of the pedals will get you closer to home. There's not much climbing to speak of. When you get home you'll have the best cold turkey sandwich ever! The pace won't be brutal and I'm not interested in racing (at least on this ride). I usually ride a century on a road bike in 7-8 hours, and I might ride fixed. Hope to see you there! Gobble Gobble!

I'm glad to see that you all are so excited! School has definitely put a damper on my riding, but I'm still doing this ride. They can scoop me up off the road damnit! I'm still considering doing it on my fixed gear. The last time I did a long ride like this on the fix I was surprised that I wasn't much more tired than on my 20-speed. The fact that the bike makes you pedal might be a benefit in the last few miles. I really want to do a double century next year so I think this ride will be a good start to my training no matter how long it takes.

I'm very interested in doing this ride! Where will the meet-up spot be, and time? I will be riding a road bike.

Hello everyone. Some of you seem to be confused as to where the meeting spot is located. It's the bridge at the end of the Ballona Creek bike trail. You know, where the people fish? Many MR rides have stopped there. You can call my google voice number 3232076711 in the morning if you need directions. Please be there at 0700. I want to get back before dark. Make sure you bring enough food and anything else you need to take care of yourself. Happy Thanksgiving!

This ride was absolutely, positively epic! It took me about 10 hours because I stopped a lot to take pictures, and had a nice cup of coffee. I didn't have a computer, but Google says it was about 125 miles just from Torrance and back. I'm guessing another 25 from there to my house. These long rides are so much more fun when you take enough food with you. No cramping for me! See you next year? I'm thinking of doing Mt. Wilson again.
