single-speed coaster brake does not mean its fixed.
it means it has the same setup as a cruiser bike or kid bmx bike without hand brakes.

he's always on craigslist. he converts bikes. that's how he makes money i guess. it is a coaster brake rear wheel. if you look closely at the rear hub.

Huh. I'm surprised. I've never heard of single-speed coaster brake.
Straight handlebars & deep Vs, white components, colored chain ... I mean, it's relying pretty heavily on a very fixed-gear aesthetic. Is that common?

i only know two people who have that kind of set-up and ride around with it. i still have yet to see a stranger roll around with that coaster brake hub on a single speed road conversion. so, in my opinion it's not common.

You nailed it katiepoche - It's getting trendy, because the coaster brake lets you keep the clean fixed gear aesthetic, while still having a freewheel and a brake.

that guy is allllll over craigslist and deals almost exclusively with fixed gears/single speed road bikes, so I would think he meant to say single speed coaster brake
Katie, you have to have heard of a single speed coaster brake. Probably just not in those terms. I mean if you had any sort of kids' bike when you were younger it was a single speed coaster brake. This refers to any bicycle that can coast but does not have hand brakes. Instead the brake is inside the rear hub and you use the pedals to engage it rather than a lever on the handlebar. Now you're thinking, ohhh yeah I HAVE heard of that, right?
Coaster brakes are always single speed, although there are a few coaster brakes that go up to 3 speeds, but those are very rare. I have a 2 speed kickback/coaster brake hub on my vintage cruiser. It is pretty damn schweet actually.
I actually think this is pretty smart of this guy. I'm guessing he was thinking, OK, there's someone out there somewhere that wants the "look" of the fixed gear, but maybe isn't comfortable with riding an actual fixed gear, so here you go...you got the no-cable look, one speed, but it is safer and easier to ride because you can coast and you have an actual brake.

I wouldn't trust a coaster brake on any bike you're going to ride faster than 13 mph, especially on downhill.
I don't get going through great lengths to make a bike look like a brakeless fixed-gear bike. I mean who would you be fooling anyway?
