Dies anyone know if its still closed of?

You'll have to check with CalTrans regularly to see if they've cleared any portions that got flooded or burned out.
Seeing as how they like to keep to keep all their resources centered in the "lower North" of the state, don't see much progress on their end.

It's closed from la cañada flintridge area all the way up to redbox. The only legal way to get to the observatory is through the tujunga side. Big T to ACH east towards upper big T . It's a fun yet challenging ride upper big T is paved but at lots of loose gravel. I've known of a few individuals that have made their way past roadblocks barricades and washed out roads to get to it the short way. A month and a half ago we were turned back by construction crews just past the clear creek side because the roads were being worked on. They also said that the rangers weren't going to say anything about you being on closed roads but the CHP may not like it one bit. There is usually hundreds of cyclists that make that pilgrimage on new years day so you may want to wait and stick with a large group. I'm rambling...

FYI
ill be leaving from noho station @ 8 am on jan 1st 2011. expect a 6 hour day, 7000 ft gain and about 75 + miles. dont worry about the road. it WILL be there.... in some way or another.
