Frustratingly Annoying Questions:
Where do I stay? Good question! I don't know. You can ask a friend! Make a friend. Book a room in the City (expensive.) Book a room outside of the City (like Oakland or Bruno, way cheaper.) You can sleep on the street.
Do I have to go on Critical Mass? No! Of course not, but a bunch of people will use that ride as the starting point for their WHOLE DAY EXPERIENCE of the ORIGINAL and BIGGEST bike rides in the USA. You think LACM (sucks) is huge, you should see SFCM.It's open ended, but you want to be with MIDNIGHT RIDAZZ on NYE, and this is your opportunity to go on another INFAMOUS RIDAZZ TRIP!!! This will be the ULTIMATE L.A. ALTERNATIVE CRITICAL MASS!

It would behoove some of you on getting together with trusted friends, rent either a Van, or a car and pickup. One car + one pick-up truck can transport up to 7 people and their STUFF + bikes for about $60 a day plus gas.
This is an exercise in self reliance and independence.
Ask for help, ask for suggestions.
Ask a friend. I'll do my best to connect you with someone, but here - on this forum thread is the best place to start.
On SFCM 15th anniversary, about 30 of us met up, rode and partied ALL NIGHT. Some got rooms in Oakland, some slept on the street. I was up there for 3 nights, with no plans. I slept in 3 different places. 2 separate nights with 2 separate groups of friends, and a final night at my sisters. I carried everything I needed in my bag.
You can do it.

I'm down to drive, but I have yet to get a proper bike rack on my little car.
If somebody helps transport our bikes, I can take up to 3 more people.
If I get a proper rack in time I can move the 4 bikes as well.
I have a old bike rack that would able to take 2 bikes maybe 3 if necessary.
with 4 ppl my car would be about $30-$35 per person with 3 (might be more realistic if anybody is above average in height or girth) my car would be $40-$45 per person.
I'd probably be staying in Oakland, so it would be good if people traveling with me were based in east bay, or willing to land in east bay and take bart into the city.

When will you going and returning? That's important.
I have the capacity to hold 6 to 9 more bikes in my truck. But your bike (not necessarily your persons) would have to come UP with me on Wednesday MORNING, and come back to LA on Sunday. If that helps anyone, hit me. I don't mind helping bring your bike. (e.g. you take a bus like the
Chinatown Bus (LA to SF, roundtrip ~$35.)
Time to start a Carpool list:
If you can DRIVE, do you have room? How many?
If you NEED a ride, when?

i just got back from oakland/sf and slept in the car one night, made a friend and had her keep u at her place for another, and paid for a hotel on the last remaining night. i really really wanna go to this. gonna see what the situation is like.

Aww, chynna. Please come! Ask your pops for it as a Chismas present. Don't worry about a place to stay, it'll work itself out. There will be plenty of floorspace - somewhere. Bring a sleeping bag, and a rack on your bike, and you'll be set.
Also, know that this is not a "tren way" trip, there will be wolfpack, angelopes and crussmob there. Hopefully some mom ridazz too!

With flowers in your hair.. still with the police. SFCM was the first Critical Mass I went to with police escorts. Not sure if this is something they show up to and escort/cork every month or not but they were present when I was in SF a few years ago for it.
This sounds cool… if my current “plans†don’t work out I will be there last minute and ride around with you guys. My car will take some people- I will kidnap Chynna. Unfortunately I will not know until Dec 7 or so.

How's the route, is it hilly?
The only reason I'm asking is, my wife would be coming along and the hills are gonna kill her and her 3 speed, not because of me, I'm an extra macho, manly man type of guy.

I've only ridden SFCM once.
It was the 15 year anniversary.
There was cops there, relatively few compared to the scale of the ride (it is and was the largest ride I have ever been on).
The route had some hills. But I wouldn't call it "hilly".
I'm pretty sure the route changes monthly, I do not know if it is shared publicly.
I think the key is to keep in touch with friends, ride at your pace and see what happens.

SFCM is realllllllly slow. Your grandma on a big wheel could keep up. It's quite a sizeable mass, and many SF streets are narrow. Still a fun, fun time.

It's SOOOOO FUCKING SLOW, it doesn't matter. You can avoid some hills, not all. CM is pretty ALL RIDA FRIENDLY. There isn't a set route, but SF is pretty small, and some areas are routinely visited, such as Golden Gate Park, the Lombard st, some tunnels. Market for sure...
p.s. The PIG presence at SFCM is NOT THE SAME. They're there, for sure. But SFCM is about 10 times bigger than LACM. They mostly block the FREEWAY entrances. I've never seen them cork, they just sit there. They don't escort, but they will come up to you if you do something REALLY STUPID, like blatently jump in front of a car, or start a fight with PED, or worst - they will take you down.

But at the moment I can only take 2 bikes tops.
How many bikes will you be able to ship?
I'm down to shlep some bodies and reduce our carbon foot print
if you have help with the bikes.
RB has expressed an interest in riding shotgun, let me know if you are moving bikes for anybody but they need a ride.
I will be landing in the east bay, and would rather not drive more than necessary.
So anybody who rolls in my car should be staying in east bay or willing to take BART to the city.

I can take the TWO that you can't. That puts me up to 7 bikes, I can possibly do TWO more. First come, first served.
Same thing with the others, the bikes have to get to ME by EARLY Weds Morning, or Tuesday night. They will also have to get back to wherever I'm staying before Sunday.
I might be able to drop off and pick up bikes from a 3rd Party, but arranging that is on you.

hey, i have a bicycle rack that holds up to 4 bicycles in case you want to borrow it... It has four straps for four bicycles... it can be used with any car with a trunk... I have only used it with road bicycles on it... i do not know the weight limit.... if you want to borrow it you are more than welcomed...

I just booked the room @ Oakland M6.
Ground floor, smoking, water view, 2 queen beds. lots of floor space.
I don't know yet when I'll travel, but it will be with my truck.
Santa Cruz is just for a pick-up of gear, so I don't really have to stay overnight there, but it being my hometown, I always enjoy my time there. I had the pleasure of showing BBDan the town including the Bike Church & West Cliff Drive in 2008 on our way to SFCM 15 Years.
I'll keep you all posted.
There would be room for 1 or more with bikes.

So my personal plan's for SFCM for NYE got nixed.
I still really want to go up however I don't want to go on my own. I have a bike rack that can fit 3 bikes including my own. I drive a G35 coupe so mind you if you're tall you don't want to sit in the back seats for long periods. :P
My car can seat 4 people but I can only hold 3 bikes including my own to reiterate.

Roxanne and i are thinking of going.. Thats 2 bikes, 2 people. I'm already on the list i know. We are trying to figure out ride sharing. Whats the car situation. it seems everyone has a friend in berkley or here or there so am i the only one looking into this?
