Sounds like it wasn't locked up. Someone would have noticed a lock being broken!
I have left my bike unlocked at a few of Hal's shindigs and it's been fine (given, they were probably smaller parties). I bet it was all the craziness from NYE and stuff.
From now on I'm at least going to lock my bike to someone else's even when we are all at Hal's. Plus for a while I'll probably be doing "tug tests" as bentstrider mentioned to prevent what happened to Larsen (loosened stem). Eek-city
Damn, seems like a lot of bullshit has been happening in Santa Monica- kinda disappointing to hear about! Here's hoping it's not a regular thing and can be attributed to the big new years eve party.

You can use my Schwinn Continental until you find something permanent. You might remember I rode it on the lunch ride to the Farmer's Market (remember that stealth invisible camry in front of you?). Since then, I fixed the squeak in the brakes. Its heavy as sin, but it rides nice.

our bikes were on each other out front too, easy access. i have a feeling they are unrelated though. feels like someone wanted to fuck with me while later someone else saw an opportunity to get a free bike.

I WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE, AND I MISSED THAT ONE FUCKING THING, HOW EVER, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A AFRICAN / AMERICAN THAT TOOK OFF WITH ITUNES BIKE.
IT SEEMS THAT ALL THE BAD SHIT IS MOVING OUT OF ECHO PARK / SILVERLAKE AREA, AND OVER TO THE WEST SIDE, WATCH OUT WEST SIDERS.

I'll keep an eye out for that bike. I sometimes go to local swapmeets looking for those illusive parts to complete some of my vintage bikes. Also, because I've been bike jacked 3 TIMES! (Skyline trail- Whittier, The Dam trails near Legg Lake, El Monte, & 3rd/Walnut LBC). And because I sill hold out hope that I'll find some of my bikes scattered into parts. Here's what i know from talking to swapmeet venders, many stolen bikes go south of the border, where bike culture is really taking off. There were a lot of locals riding $1000+ bikes in the last Rosarito-Ensenada bike ride. Or, they far north to be sold at other swap meets, and vice versa. Check other cities Craigslists...

I'm so sad for you. I'm glad someone has a bike to lend you. I was nervous about all those bikes laying around when I got there. Definitely a lesson to err on the side of caution and lock up your bikes even when you don't think you need to. I hope the bastard that stole your bike suffers a whole lot in this new year. What kind of douchebag would start off the year being a scummy theif?!?! Aaagh.. Madness. Fuckers. They'll get theirs. Karma.

thank you for your support, especially from the community. if i didnt have you guys, losing my bike would be that much more painful. i'm glad people are willing to loan me whatever they can.
i should be able to come up with the money for the bike in about 2 months, which is the duration i'm looking for a loaner bike from.
its sad, but like everyone else its already happened, chances of recovery are minimal, i'm going to contact a couple of shops that do painting to make sure they check with any steel triple triangle frames coming in.
and keep your eyes peeled, don't pursue the suspect alone. follow him if you can, call up a posse, and then murder him.

on an additional note, i know bicycles are expensive, so i am willing to give you up to a $500 security deposit check because that is the most i'm willing to spend on a bike.
if something were to happen to the bike i was borrowing i would stop riding anyways so i think that is fair.

Bike thieves suck. I feel for you, Junu (even though I don't know you outside the internet). I was going to say something like "there's nothing worse than walking back to where you parked your bike and finding it gone," but then I realized that there are actually a whole lot of things worse than having a bike stolen. You'll get a new bike soon, and you'll be back on the streets, as happy as before.

no right now for me that bike is/has been everything, and to find it gone is really heart drenching.
i haven't felt like this since i broke up with my first girlfriend. i'm very saddened. if i was given a choice between losing a testicle and keeping my bike forever, or having my bike taken, i seriously might consider giving one of my babies up.

there is a decent chance that the person who took ijunes bike wasn't even at the party.
his bike was on top of a pile and not locked and very close to the street. honestly it could have been anyone.
pretty bikes need locks!
they are a hot commodity now, you've seen how much people think they can resell crappy bikes for online, they know they can get more for a nice one.
everyone needs to get a small ulock or a cable lock just for rides.
or make sure someone in your group has a lock you can use.
it's kinda like wearing a helmet, once you have an accident, you tend to wear one later... once you lose your bike,( we hope) you'll carry a lock.
