A fleeing motorist struck and critically injured a bystander after police responded to an altercation outside a North Hollywood bar early Saturday, according to police.
An officer fired at, but did not strike, the subject as he drove away from the scene outside Hacienda Corona Bar, according to police.
At about 3 a.m., officers responded to a fight in the bar parking lot near Lankershim and Victory. Authorities said one man attempted to flee in a white Nissan Maxima.
"The suspect attempted to flee and crashed into a police vehicle, then went forward and ran over a bystander," said North Hollywood Patrol Division Commanding Officer Peter Whittingham. "Officers confronted the suspect, and the suspect attempted to run over the officer and the officer-involved shooting occurred."
The bystander was hospitalized in serious condition.
The subject was last seen in a white Nissan Maxima. Whittingham said the car might have bullet holes in the side.
Authorities said the man has a mohawk.
In February, authorities broke up a fight that involved about 80 people at the same location.
