U-Lock insurance policy?

So i've noticed that a lot of people that have gotten their bike stolen have said they used a U-LOCK. the last time i bought one it came with a form about INSURANCE if bike gets stolen while using that companies LOCK... does it actually work? has anyone every gotten some money from it to get a new bike?

 i believe there are some conditions that usually make it impossible to cash in. you have to send them the lock, and it has to have been broken without power tools.
