It's only going to get worse.
More bikes on the street means more hit and runs.
It's a never-ending defeat.

Until society decides that DUIs are important to punish and have severe consequences then we will continue to see this happen. Everyday people are encouraged to drink and drive. Every bar and restaurant offer happy hours.
Happy hour is not so happy when you are on the business end of a hummer.

So he'll be before a judge in room 13 on Friday the 13th.
Worst of luck to him.

Arraignment was heard this afternoon and Mr. Singh entered a not guilty plea to felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, dui w/ injury and hit and run with injury and one misdemeanor count of hit and run with property damage.
Defense attorney Marc Biederman was present with Mr. Singh.
A pretrial conference has been set for June 14 in Courtroom #12 at 1:30pm, and a Preliminary Hearing has been tentatively set for June 27.
Mr. Singh was remanded into the custody of the Ventura Sheriff at the end of the arraignment.
A number of media requests were filed, so expect to see some coverage of this on TV by KTLA.

According to the Ventura County Superior Court website, a MURDER charge was added to the criminal complaint against the hummer driver that killed Nick Haverland in Ventura.
He plead not guilty.
The preliminary hearing that was scheduled for June 27, has now been vacated and a new date of August 2 was set for another Early Disposition Conference.

On May 18th, there was a nation-wide Ride of Silence Day in memory of those killed. In Ventura, the Ride of Silence was dedicated to Nick Haverland. He was a student at Ventura Community College on his way to take a final when he was killed. We paused at the scene of his death near the college.

Like Ephemerae said in another thread, I was curious why Los Angeles was way under-represented in the national Ride of Silence Day.

Since this thread is about Nick Haveland's death, here's an account from the Ventura County Star. Really sad.

A Ghost Bike was placed there shortly after he died.
