Los Angeles Critical Mass -- LACM -- Helmets now Available for under 18 year old riders
Thread started by

A couple of Los Angeles Police Department Officers who support our efforts to make LA Critical Mass rides positive, rather than negative have individually come out of pocket and given Los Angeles Critical Mass over $1600.00 worth of new helmets for riders of Los Angeles Critical Mass who can not afford a helmet and are under the age of 18.
These helmets are new. There are a variety of sizes and designs.
If you want a helmet, send an email to gear@LACriticalMass.org
Only those selected to get a helmet will receive instructions with the time and address to pick up the helmet on Friday March 25, so it can be worn on the ride. Be sure to check spam or bulk email in case our reply email to you ends up there.
Note: there are a limited number of helmets so we can not promise everyone who sends an email will receive a helmet. The rider must be present at the place and time within the email on Friday March 25 or the helmet will be given out to another rider.
We hope you’ll want to help us help others. To volunteer to assist either before or during LA Critical Mass rides please email.

"A couple of LAPD Officers ... individually came out of pocket and gave Los Angeles Critical Mass over $1600.00 worth of new helmets"
I call BULLSHIT.
On the out of pocket part.
It makes it sound like two cops spent $1,600 to buy shit for you cause they like you so much.
This is what probably happened. LAPD buys helmets and bikes for their own needs; they can call the suppliers and pull a favor; "hey can you spare a few helmets we can give out to poor kids?" or maybe they have surplus from last year's models that are no longer "state of the art".
In any case; that would be commendable allright but if we also take into account that the LAPD is being sued for violent misconduct during LACM and some cop may lose his job (as it happened in NYCM) then the motives become more murky.
They simply want to spit us regarding our attitude towards the police.
Go to LACM on Friday and kiss a cop for me. I'd rather go about my life without their escort.

So hey... since the topic is "Los Angeles Critical Mass..." Does anybody know the route tonight? I'm going to be late if I make it, and would love to catch up!

If two police officers spent $1600 on helmets for kids, that wouldn't improve my image of the department, so it's a moot point. It would only make me think, "hey, those two individuals did something very nice and selfless for the community
despite the fact that they're cops." I guess we'll never know because LAPD as an organization doesn't disclose anything about anything to anyone, ever (lots to hide). But don't you think it's possible that there are a couple of good folks out there who just want to help, who happen to be officers? It is rare, but it does happen.

Follow @LosAngelesCM. They usually tweet the streets they are riding at the time they are riding them. You can usually catch up.

But we sure do have an abundance of douchebags.......
Who cares who paid for the helmets. Kids were getting free helmets. That is a good thing.

There always has to be someone with a bitchy rant. The kids r getting free helmets, who cares where they came from. Just be happy for the kids and give credit where needed.

Is this program still active? If so, post up here as the officers involved can probably get helmets at a fairly substantial discount, as I hear they had to pay full retail for the last batch, and that's not cool if you're trying to help put more kids in helmets.
