Bike Fixing

I'd like to learn more about fixing my bikes. I have a single speed road bike and I know how to do simple things like change the stem and stuff, but I'd like to learn how to make it into a fixie. I know I have to buy the cog and lock ring, but I don't know how to fix the tire.
Does anyone have any good videos or know anyone who can show me how.
Where do you learn how to fix your bike up or do you just pick it up as you go along.
Thanks

depending on where you live... you can volunteer some time at one of the co-ops... bike oven, bicycle kitchen, there is one in Long Beach, another on the westside, and one in the SF valley too...

Go to the Kitchen, Biker wave, bike oven or valley bikery to get some help. Coops are good places to learn.

Do you have a flip-flop hub on your rear wheel? (E.g. on the side without the freewheel, are there threads? If so, are there 2 sets of threads, one slightly smaller than the other? If so, converting your bike to a fixie will be as simple as screwing on a cog and lockring, mounting and remounting the wheel.
If not, you'll probably need a new rear wheel, and may need a few other goodies as well.
Any of the bike co-ops can walk you through it, and whatever else you may need to do, so swing by the Bikerowave, Bike Kitchen, Bike Oven, Valley Bikery, etc., when you've got a moment.

You would feel more like a hero if you brought a bike pump :P

Does anyone know where I could pick up an inexpensive flip flop wheelset and/or a fixie cog + lock ring?
