What’s your name (optional) and/or your Midnight Ridazz log-in name?

Jennygirl

How did you first hear about Midnight Ridazz and what was your first group
bike ride?

I heard about Midnight Ridazz via my friend Kyle from college (he joined the
Navy and was stationed in San Diego) when he came up to visit and wanted
me and my roommate to go on this "bike ride" thing called CRANK Mob. I said
'you came here to visit us not go on a "bike ride"'! He went anyway, then came
back at like 5am and said YOU HAVE TO GO- THAT WAS THE MOST FUN
I'VE EVER HAD... EVER." 3 months later I had my first bike in LA and I
attended the "Ain't got nothin' else to do ride" when I witnessed my first
gunpoint holdup, Tiffany tomato got hit by an SUV, and I met some of my
current best friends in the bike scene to this day. A week later was LACM which
was my first big ride. There was an afterparty at Aglago (door requirement was
you had to have a bike) and I was hooked.

Currently what rides do you attend regularly and what ride(s) would you like to
see make a comeback?

I currently attend whatever rides I can, and I love to bring my sound bike out
whenever possible. I also lead a ride on the westside called West Side Mosey. I
would love to see rides like CRANK Mob and R0B0TZ make a comeback. Or if
I could just request a time period, it would have to be a Summer 2008
Comeback.

What advice would you pass on to new ridazz?

Don't swerve, and just follow the music! Don't aggravate motorists, it's not worth
it! Call things out with HAND SIGNALS! Way better than screaming.

Do you prefer small rides (30 or less people) or larger rides and why?

Depends on what mood I'm in. I feel like both kinds of rides have their place in
the LA for group riding. Lately I have been feeling the small rides, but I can
sense a part of me deep down that is craving some big-ride mayhem. It's great
having a loud sound system on the big rides.. but actually every ride is a good
ride to have a sound system on no matter the size ;)

Tell us about the best and worst experience you’ve encountered on a group
ride.

Worst (but arguably best) experience on a group ride was my first ride; almost
getting shot inside a liquor store at Washington and Crenshaw stopping for
refreshments on the way home. My best experience was one of those CRANK
Mobs, getting trike drunk with a ficus tree in the rear basket. What memory I do
have from that night will live on forever.

What did you do for fun before you started “riding”

75 hour work weeks at a design studio in Venice, although I wouldn't call it
"fun". My now freelance lifestyle is a way better fit for riding in general.

What’s the best and worst thing group bike rides have done for cycling as a
whole in Los Angeles?

The best thing is: it has helped some people reconsider the bicycle as a mode
of transportation in LA. The worst thing about the scene though is that... wth
kind of question is that?! The bad things are the good things, who are we
kidding here?

If you can name 1 person who embodies the spirit of “Midnight Ridazz”, Who
would it be and Why?

Well I'm sure other people have said it before, but Richtotheie is a clear
standout figure in my eyes. He's always taking things to new.. heights ;) But
seriously, not just in terms of insanely tall tall bikes. He is a role model for vibes
across the board and brings love, cheer, and party time wherever he goes. And
that is what I think of when I remember the best rides I've been on.

What do you think the public’s perception is of group bike rides?

I honestly don't think it's any influence to me- I just try to be courteous to
motorists and pedestrians being that they are potential ridazz too. Mainly, over
anything else, I try to let the good times ROLL OUT!

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Best community ever in the world times a million bajillion katrillion. I love you
all. I wouldn't be the happiest I've ever been without you.
