I only had one bicycle.
It meant so much to me. I'm writing this in tears, I'm so upset.
Tonight at Transistor there was a fight. I don't know who started it but it ended up revolving around Stilline and some guys, I tried to keep out of it, yada yada, and then I opened my big mouth after most of the fighting stopped and said that anyone who threw a punch was a pussy and they should leave because they were ruining the event for eveyone.
Then a guy came up to me and asked if I was trying to start something, and I said no, and before you know it a few punches connected to my face. Then a big guy came around behind me and put me in a choke hold and everyone started punching me.
I'm okay. Thankfully I used Antonino Chen's MMA advice and I think I got out of it well. I only have a cut lip, maybe some bruises tomorrow.
I left the scene because I figured more people would keep fighting if I was there. I called the police and by the time they came and I flagged them down my bike was gone.
I've seen these kids around and I know I'm going to see them again.
You know what my bike looks like. Everyone does. It has risers instead of drops on it now. I'd like it back.
I really think I'm going to leave LA because I've seen those guys, and I'll see them again, and it just isn't worth it to start some war over a fight and my stolen bike.

oh my god... mikey, I'm so sorry to hear this. I really hope you're okay and you got out of it as well as you say you did. I'll keep an eye out for your bike. It's really upsetting to hear that you were sucked into a violent conflict for denouncing such violence. Don't leave LA over it though. The same shit happens everywhere anyway.

That's messed up beyond belief. I'm just glad you're OK, Mikey. Post some photos of the bike and any serial numbers, plus a detailed description of the parts.
Makes me want to get pepper spray and a big-ass knife. Too bad it's too dangerous to carry a fake gun, the cops are liable to shoot your ass.

and i just so happened to be driving down broadway at almost 3am when i run out of gas and see stillline sitting at a bus stop looking incredibly sad and dirty. i somehow make it around the corner to fill up my tank and return to matt, still sitting next to his tall bike in a torn tutu. i whip out my veganbikerack and take him and his bike home.
i'm glad you're both okay. eyes are peeled...

On the Mosey Wed. night, I think I remember seeing cages with double black straps on each side. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looked like some sort of emblem or sticker on the front of the bike.

The cops didnt seem to give a fuck about any of it. Getting punch is no big deal but I'm so pissed they got mikey's bike. This is why i hate going to bars. Parking lots are the only safe place to drink.

the bike looks a little different than most pictures.
now it has a 60 mm Technomic Nitto stem with risers and red grips. there is a sticker with the virgin mary on the head tube. it also has a brooks saddle.

This was at the end of the thirsty thursdays ride which ended sort of near transistor which had a lot of people from the artwalk.
Face hurst more now than it did when i got hit. Gonna take a nap and go to the formal later.
Just for the record. I didnt swing on that guy even once. He hit me three times straight in the eye. Really can't say how it started. Those guys were just fuckin bros lookin for a thrill.

if the bouncers know the kids who beat us up, we can get there names. im filing a police report today.
if it takes going down to transistor (grand star) with cops talking to the bouncers to get the names im doing that.
i was also driven home, via an awesome vespa scooter, by a guy who knows who puts on the event. he might know who these kids are.
part of me wants to find there names and adresses, and socials, and checking account number, etc. and make there lives a living hell for years to come, BUT im not that kind of guy.
I just want my bike back and for no one to ever punch anyone again.
transistor must have been a pretty different expierience than burning mun, huh?

I really wanna know what exactly happened...so you and your bike were outside, your bike unlocked...you guys got in a fight somehow and someone snagged it during the scuffle?
Fuck the cops, I'm not one for violence usually but I say we take care of these guys ourselves assuming we actually see them again. They didn't bail in a car that anybody saw?
I can't believe 3 of my best bike buddies all got smacked and i wasn't there.
Have you called every bike shop in the county yet? I bet the thieves aren't dumb enough to take it someplace whole, but still...

i am not that type of person either, but i am gathering as much good karma in this life as i possibly can just for the chance that we get to come back and live a whole nother life - then i am going to be that type of person.. for entertainment value only, i really hate people that can't restrain their own anger issues - i call them MEATHEADS.

I was at little joy and the roost. on my tall bike, how could you miss it? We rode from roost to transistor. so i guess at that point we were back on the artwalk/dtla everynight ride.

Sorry to hear about your terrible experience at the Grand Star, and hopefully if we all keep our eyes open for your bike we will be able to spot it out and take it from the person who took it. Stealing your bike is another example of people "keeping their hands to themselves', it seems like most of all they stole it to f*7ck with you.

anyway,
i talked to dorian, he runs club transistor. nice guy, he helped me out last night and took a few punches that were aimed for me. give him props.
here are what the perps look like, im trying to find pictures of them online.
first guy. about 6'0', 180 lbs, middle eastern or latino, kind of a beard, brown or black eyes, very mod scenester pointy shoes deep deep v neck shit.'
other guys - short, white kid, mustash, go i feel like im describing every asshole in LA, this is stupid. 5'7", dark hair, black hair.
other guy - GIANT BEEHIVE haircut. likes to "mean mug"
etc.
i dont know if they, or someone they knew took the bike.
the fighting and the bike may be two seperate incidents. it is a possibility. it is also likely that the person who took my bike knows someone who hit me.

Running away from LA cause u got your bike snatched is no way to deal with ur problem. Cause where ever you go you'll just find a new problem and you'll just end up running away again. Me as far as bikes go, I got shit. I have to get somebody to lend me a bike to ride. Its about the ride, not the bike. Like everything else in life, bikes come and go.

I think you're missing the point. As I understand it, Mikey's fairly opposed to physical violence, and tried to make it clear that those engaging in said violence, his friends or not, were pussies.
Whether it was wise to refer to the people who had just been punching his friends (as well as some of those friends) as pussies is another matter entirely, but he was trying to make a point about violence, not engage in it.

Sorry you got your bike stolen, I've lost many many bikes. Now, LA is a tough town and assholes from all over the country come here, it's hard, I know. If you can't hang then you should go to say Portland; bicycle friendly and people are nice for the most part, much nicer than LA folks. Did you know that LA was polled as being the most unfriendly city in America? Also, in a statistical sense the chance of getting killed in LA is higher than if you were in Iraq.

The bicycle scene is what kept me in LA and its keeping me riding again.
I cashed in my 401k tonight from Apple. Im getting a couple hundo so im on the lookout for used parts (Matty, i love your bike, but the toe overlap is already killing me, how do you do it? how do any of you ride with toe overlap on the street?)

I've got a decent but not blingy track wheelset (Weinmann DP18s and Formula sealed bearing hubs) that I'll contribute if people want to go the "build it up" route.

i talked to the guy who punched me in the face and so did my friend. he says he doesnt know who took my bike and it wasnt any of the friends he drove back with.
he is also getting pictures of my bike via myspace from my friend. he is going to share it with his cyclist friends to spread the word. i think he might post it on his myspace.
he seems like a nice enough guy who many people speak highly of.
he also punched me in the face. ive had bad nights too.
still lookin for my bike.
