get an account and turn off all notifications so you don't get bothered with anything....log in as much or as little as you want. you don't have to comment on anything, post pics, etc....it's a great way to keep in touch with friends/family/acquaintances and what they're up to...otherwise, go live in the mountains....

I admit, I still use fartfacebook for other things - So I am sort of lame too.
My main point was having MR discussions other than here just doesn't make sense to me.

if you dont have any notifications and dont have to comment or anything other than to post pictures, why not just a get flickr/photobucket. . the level of ease of communication is undeniably easier with fuckface but with no effort and it shows how far someone would go to keep in touch with a loved one.
but then again some people are lazy and others are not.

The internet is just the new TV, it's a time vampire. Facebook is just the newest iteration of lame "social" media that is anything but social. Comments are like shouting from a passing car, thus worthless. The ease for self-aggrandizement and voyeurism are immense and many weak minded people will fall under the siren's song. Any time spent of facebook could be used to make spokecards, organize a ride, fix a bike, teach someone to fix a bike, design a sticker or button or shirt for our cycling culture, to be proactive and go out and make a difference. Posting something on the web while having the semblance of action is really inaction, non-doing, not doing a thing at all. I've curtailed my internet use to about once a week and my productivity has increased ten-fold. Think of all the projects that you've let linger, they could be pushed to the completed stage! I'm sorry I am too hopeful; it's much easier to make a few mouse clicks and lie to ones self that you're actually doing something. We are doomed. I'll be out here in the real world waiting for everyone else to wake up.
